Poon Hill Ghorepani Trek – Annapurna

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, the Annapurna Sunrise Trek, is well-known for its sunrise views of one of the world’s most stunning mountain ranges, the Annapurna Range.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is arguably the best short trek in the Himalayas in Nepal. This journey, which can take 4 or 5 days to complete, is appropriate for individuals of all ages and is especially ideal for families. The best vantage point for the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Varaha Shikhar, and Lamjung Himal is Poon Hill (3,210m).

Itinerary for Poon Hill Trek

Depending on where the hikers begin their journey, different routes can be taken to Poon Hill. The itinerary below, uses Kathmandu as the trek’s starting point.

Day 1 – Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Nayapul (8 Hours)

Take a bus from Kathmandu (1,400m) to Pokhara (6 hours), then take a car from Pokhara (1–2 hours) to Nayapul (1050m), where you can spend the night in a guesthouse. If taking the bus doesn’t appeal, you can also fly to Pokhara.

Day 2 – Trek from Nayapul to Ghorepani (Trek 8 Hours)

You will begin your journey to reach Ghorepani after breakfast at Nayapul. It will take roughly 5 hours to complete the moderately challenging and steeply sloped hike to Ulleri. Continue your trip toward Ghorepani village after lunch at Ulleri.

Amazing views of the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli may be seen from the routes. You will gradually climb through a rhododendron forest throughout this time (2460m). More than eight different species of rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower, may be found on the hillside right below Ghorepani.

Day 3 – Hike to Poon Hill Viewpoint and Trek Down to Nayapul (Trek 7 Hours)

It would be best if you rose early to experience the dawn break and the magnificent sunrise over the Himalayas from Poon Hill. One hour hike from Ghorepani will take you to the Poon Hill viewpoint. Poon Hill offers views of numerous mountain ranges, including Dhaulagiri I (8167 m), Tukuche (6920 m), Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091 m), Hiunchuli (6441 m).

Then, return to Ghorepani for breakfast after taking in the scenery at Poon Hill before descending to Ulleri and Nayapul.

Day 4 – Return from Nayapul to Pokhara to Kathmandu

Finally, on the last day you leave Nayapul early in the morning for Pokhara, then take a bus or a flight back to Kathmandu.

Best Time to Visit Poon Hill

One can complete the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek at any time of year. However, it is most popular between March and May and October and November.
