As of March 2024, solo trekking for foreign nationals is no longer permitted in Nepal. Trekkers must be accompanied by a registered guide to ensure safety and proper navigation through remote trails.

Nepal offers a variety of trekking routes ranging from easy to very difficult. Popular treks like Annapurna Base Camp and Langtang are moderately challenging, while remote areas like Upper Dolpo are more demanding due to altitude and rugged terrain.

The ideal trekking seasons in Nepal are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is clear, and the trails offer stunning views without being too challenging.

Acclimatization is key when trekking in high-altitude areas like Upper Dolpo. It’s recommended to spend extra days at higher altitudes, stay hydrated, and go at a steady pace to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

Most treks require a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card and specific permits, such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) or Sagarmatha National Park Permit, depending on the region.
