Detailed Itinerary of Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa and Kyanjin Ri

Day 1 – Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi

The first day of your trip is a seven to eight-hour drive to Syabru Besi in Rasuwa. You must take an early bus from Machhapokhari, Balaju. Along the banks of the Trishuli River, you will travel through picturesque towns and villages. Additionally, views of the Langtang region’s summits as well as the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and other peaks start to become visible.

Day 2 – Trek from Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel

The second day, after eating breakfast, you begin your hike through a lush forest, continuing for an hour or so until you reach Bamboo village. After that, you continue walking for another five hours to the Lama Hotel. The forested trail that leads to Lama Hotel is very steep.

Day 3 – Trek from Lama Hotel to Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa

With occasional glimpses of Langtang, the trail continues to rise into the jungle. You will arrive at a location named Ghoda Tabela, which is translated as a horse stable, after traveling for around two hours. Following Ghoda Tabela, the trail broadens with a few transient goths (settlements used by herders). It will take you about 4 hours to walk to Mundu.

And, after lunch at Mundu, you continue walking to Kyanjin Gompa. Another option is to spend the night at Mundu and continue the next day. But despite being difficult, it is possible to hike from Lama Hotel to Kyanjin Gompa. The trail ascends gradually from Mundu as the valley unfolds through yak farms. You arrive at Kyanjin village after passing a number of small streams and rivulets.

Day 4 – Climb to Kyanjin Ri and explore the valley

Astonishing view from Kyanjin Ri

You have the option of resting on this day or hiking to Kyanjin Ri, which is highly advised. Most hikers who climb Kyanjin Ri do so from the tiny settlement of Kyanjin Gompa, which is nearly 1000 meters (3200 feet) above sea level.

The Kyanjin Ri provides one of the best views of the Langtang Himalayan range. Trekkers can view the stunning Kyanjin Village, several glaciers, yak pastures, vast banks of the Langtang River, and most significantly, the mountain summits. You will be able to see the Langtang Lirung (7,234 meters), Langtang RI (7,205 meters), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 meters), Loenpo Gang (6,907 meters), Changbu (6,781 meters), Gangchenpo (6,387 meters), Morimoto (6,150 meters), Yala Peak (5,520 meters), Ganjala Peak, Ganjala Pass, and numerous other mountains. A 360-degree panoramic picture of the mountains and their massive moving glaciers is also possible. Additionally, occasionally, you’ll be able to watch avalanches.

Day 6 – Trek Back to Syabru Besi

You continue to descend in the same direction until you reach Bamboo, where a different trail takes you to Syabru Besi. Stay overnight and relax your much tired legs and rejoice the last days of your trip. One can think back on his/her trip to the Himalayan brink.
